Welcome Back

  • Dear students, parents and guardians,

As Director of Alternative Programs, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the new school year. Alvord Alternative Continuation High School offers students a choice. There are a number of reasons students and parents may choose a non-traditional educational setting. Our purpose is simple: ensuring the physical, emotional and academic well-being of every student who walks through our doors, both on-campus and on-line.

We have a highly qualified staff at Alternative Education. I am pleased to work with a dedicated group of teachers and support staff who pull together to help our students realize their talents and experience success in school.

Our students create personalized educational experiences where they must “own” their individual plan for success; they are guided and supported throughout this process by a caring and respectful staff member. Our teachers then support and engage students to demonstrate their learning through writing and various assessment activities such as Odysseyware or other similar programs.

Parent involvement is a vital key to Alternative Education. We encourage parents to monitor student progress regularly. Parents are welcome to set up appointments to meet with me and discuss the progress of their students.

The entire staff at AACHS is working towards the same goal - provide an opportunity for each student to succeed and to complete requirements for promotion and graduation. We welcome your suggestions and questions. Consider being a part of our School Site Council, English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) and participate in the exciting changes and further development of our program.  To learn more about these committees please click here for more information about ELAC and School Site Council.

You may contact me or make an appointment by calling 951-509-6120. I look forward to this school year and working with the students, the staff and the parents of Alternative Education.

    Sincerely,

    Craig Shiflett

    Director of Alternative Programs
