Welcome to my Bio!
I've lived in Riverside most of my life. In fact, the suburb of La Sierra was my home for at least 30 years. I remember when La Sierra had a dairy farm. Residents could get fresh milk delivered to their homes. I am glad you and your student live here. Together, let's learn together, reach out to each other, and help make the area a family-friendly and business-growth district so they can be proud. At La Sierra High School, our motto is Eagle Pride.
More about me: I worked my way through college and held steady jobs in many different industries: retail clothes sales, waiting table, clerical work, even making pizza. Shortly after college, I joined a large Fortune 500 company in Riverside and worked in the RV industry for 10 years. I was steadily promoted through various departments: advertising, marketing, customer service, sales management, software trainer, and production forecasting. As a sales forecaster, I could see that California regulations would harm the industry. I decided to go into the field of education and follow my passion in teaching which developed when I trained new people at my company. My hope was to bring real-world living into the classroom. I started teaching about 15 years ago and have taught computer information systems, accounting, English 9-12, Business Academy English, credit recovery, Keyboarding, and International Business. My educational degrees are as follows: BA Communications; Masters in Business Administration; Single Subject Credential in English and Business; CTE Preliminary Credential.
My passion for business is also shared with my husband. Together with him, we started a swimming pool service business. He oversees the day-to-day in-field work and manages phone calls. I handle the back-end business functions and teach during the day. Our daughter, who will soon be in middle school, is a bit of an entrepreneur as well. She loves to sell girl scout cookies. Thus, I am glad La Sierra High School offers a pathway called International Business Academy. In the program, students will learn about business, trade shows, back-end business functions and develop computer skills. Our school also offers a Health Academy and Culinary program that are outstanding and designed for real-world experience too.
This year at La Sierra, I am teaching a freshmen-level Introduction to Business class, a Keyboarding/Computer class, an International Business class, and helping some seniors with Odysseyware credit recovery. Students in the classes all have desktop computers and state-of-art monitors. I enjoy teaching students in an on-line setting and in person. Most of the work we do in class is posted to Google Classroom. I make myself available to students during lunch or after school for extra help if needed.
My other hobbies include camping, raising my daughter as a Girl Scout mom, civics, and the under-water world of marine science.
