Hello, Norte Vista students and families!
As always, I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits, and, of course, being Brave!
First, thank you again to all our awesome and supportive families that attended our students' awards recognition nights held on January 25 and 26. My staff and I were so excited to see entire families show up to celebrate and support their students! Now, because we had so many students to celebrate with, and so many families showed up, we will have to make adjustments to future student awards ceremonies; but that is perfectly fine with us because we enjoyed the family atmosphere!
Second, we are entering a very important time in our school year. This is what we refer to as "testing season", which takes place every year, from February to May. Students, depending on their grade level, or programs, will be taking local and state academic assessments such as the ELPAC, CAASSP, iReady, AP, and IB assessments. Each assessment is an opportunity for every student to prove how much they have grown academically, and how they are progressing toward being ready for life after Norte Vista! You can help us at home, by simply encouraging your students to do their absolute best on every test!
Third, our Senior Class of 2023 is down to just 67 school days remaining in their senior year! Let's continue to do everything we can to keep this awesome group of Braves motivated and focused, all the way to May 24, 2023; GRADUATION DAY!! Please do not forget, we still have several seniors that must still complete credit recovery courses to guarantee they walk on graduation day. If you receive an email from me about your student needing to complete credit recovery courses, please speak with your student, their counselor, and me immediately to make sure the requirements for graduation are clearly understood.
Next, please continue to emphasize our "10 Things that require zero talent" guidelines, which are posted on the banner below, as well as in every classroom on campus. If students focus on these traits every day, they will surely find success at Novi, and throughout life. The first and most important is "Being on Time". Please do everything you can, every school day, to get your students to school on time, so they are in class ready to learn before the tardy bell rings. Students with three or more class tardies will receive lunch detention, and those with excessive tardies will be added to our non-activity list, meaning they will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities.
Finally, thank you for your continued support of the Norte Vista High School cell phone policy, food delivery policy, dress code policy, and new tardy policy. These policies, along with other site or district policies, help maintain high expectations and the safest learning environment possible, free of disruptions and distractions. We thank you for your cooperation and support in addressing these policies, and ensuring academic achievement remains a top priority not just on campus, but throughout our entire community!
