  • Principal Weekly Updates

    Week of October 3, 2022:

Hello, Norte Vista students and families!

As always, I hope my message finds you in good health and spirits.

First, please remember to save this date and time: October 13, 2022, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. On this day we will be having our first-semester Parent-Teacher conferences. I highly encourage all parents to attend, regardless if their student is passing or in danger of failing.  Parent-Teacher conferences provide a perfect opportunity to engage with your student's teachers, counselors, or administrators to discuss your student's progress. Please continue to check your email and this website for additional information regarding parent-teacher conferences. We hope to see you there!

Second, as we move deeper into the school year, please keep in mind how important school attendance is when considering academic success. Studies have shown that good attendance leads to academic success. So, please do everything you can to ensure your student is at school every day and in class before the tardy bell rings.

The Norte Vista Staff will continue recognizing students for their positive behavior, academic achievements, and citizenship, by awarding NVHS Brave Superstar Tickets. As a guide, study the "10 Things that Require Zero Talent" poster at the bottom of each and every email I send. When NVHS Staff observes one or more of these soft skills, students will be given an NVHS Brave Superstar Ticket, which will enter students into a weekly rewards program. Selected students have an opportunity to earn NVHS school gear or other incentives!  As a reminder, the first soft skill mentioned is "Being on Time."

Next, please note that on October 12, 2022, we will be administering the PSAT Test to all students in grade 11. In addition, we will have a special Senior Push Day for all students in grade 12. While juniors are testing, our seniors will be attending classes on financial aid, college applications, trade school information, military career, and other relevant topics to help prepare them to be college and career ready. Please also be aware that as of October 1, 2022, our seniors could begin completing their financial aid applications. NVHS staff, especially those working with our seniors, will provide many opportunities for our seniors to get assistance completing their financial aid applications. If you as a family have questions about the financial aid process or application, please contact your student's counselor as soon as possible.

Finally, thank you for your continued support of the Norte Vista High School tardy policy, cell phone policy, food delivery policy, and dress code policy. These policies, along with other site or district policies, help maintain high expectations and the safest learning environment possible, free of disruptions and distractions. We thank you for your cooperation and support in addressing these policies, and ensuring academic achievement remains a top priority.

Finally, thank you for your continued support of "The Best High School in the World."

Please continue to read our Superintendent's weekly message, and visit the AUSD Main Website, and the California Department of Public Health for the latest updates on COVID-19.
