School Career: I have been teaching for 31 years, with 27 of them in the Alvord Unified School District, and 4 other years in Spain. I love teaching wholeheartedly, and hope to pass along positivity and life-long learning to all my students. I have taught 21 years in Middle School Mathematics, then 4 years teaching English in Spain, and now have 6 years teaching High School Mathematics, where I plan to stay until I retire. I have been the instructor for the Healthy Bodies Healthy Mind (HBHM) Program at UCR from 2003-2008, a STEP Presenter in 2007 and 2008, and a GATE presenter in 2006-2008. Some Professional Honors that I have received are: California Teaching Fellowship Award (1984), Teacher of the Month (1994), Certificated Employee of the Month (2002), PTSA Founder's Day Award (2006), Outstanding Middle School Mathematics Teacher (2006), Teacher of the Year (2008), and Middle School Mathematics Teacher for Riverside County (2007).

Personal Life: I was born and raised in Inglewood, California, later moved to Gardena, where I graduated from Gardena High School in the top of my class. I received the University of California Regents Scholarship, with which I went the University of California at Riverside. I met my first husband, Robert Balow, during this time, and we were very happily together for 14 years. He died in 2003 of synovial sarcoma, a rare cancer, that he had battled for many years. I have always loved to be outside, live a healthy lifestyle. and to travel. I have traveled all over the world, and while in Spain, I met my now husband, Javier Donaire. I make my favorite joke that he is my best souvenir ever! We were married in both Spain and in California so both our families could attend more easily, and now have 12 amazing years together. We have a big dog named Lucy, and a three-legged cat named Nugget, that we kept after fostering from a shelter. We both love sports, traveling, and are always looking for new adventures.
