Culinary Trip to Olvera Street

Alvord CTE students took the Metrolink from Downtown Riverside to Union Station to visit Olvera Street and China Town.

The students had lunch at the Historic Cielito Lindo Restaurant which has been in operation since 1934. The restaurant has a rich history and the menu has remained largely unchanged since its opening. Students also had the opportunity to walk to China Town and explore the different markets and shops that line Broadway. The highlight of the day was a walking tour of Olvera Street given by Mr. Flores from Las Angelitas Del Pueblo. Students learned about the founding of the city of Los Angeles and the history of the settlement of California.

Several students commented on the new experiences they had on the trip from riding on the Metrolink for the first time, to visiting Olvera Street and China Town for the first time. At the end of the day the smiles on the students faces and the many thanks to their teachers and chaperones were a great sign of how important and meaningful this trip was to them.
