Alvord Unified School District Announces Dr. Resma Byrne as Next Superintendent of Schools
Corona, CA – April 18, 2024 – The Alvord School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Resma Byrne as its next Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2024. Dr. Byrne will succeed Dr. Allan Mucerino, who has served with distinction and will be retiring after a commendable tenure, effective June 30, 2024.

Dr. Byrne’s journey in Alvord began three years ago when she joined the district as Assistant Superintendent, overseeing all educational services. Her impactful leadership and innovative approaches in this role have been instrumental in advancing the district’s commitment to high standards of excellence.

Prior to her tenure at Alvord, Dr. Byrne enriched the Walnut Valley Unified School District as the Director of Educational Services and played a pivotal role in shaping student success at Corona-Norco Unified School District through various leadership positions. Her extensive experience in the education sector includes serving as an elementary school principal and assistant principal, positions in which she honed her skills in educational leadership and developed a deep understanding of the needs of both students and educators.

A staunch advocate for equity and inclusion, Dr. Byrne has consistently demonstrated her dedication to these crucial aspects of education. Her approach ensures that every student has access to the resources and opportunities needed to succeed, regardless of their background. "Dr. Byrne’s exemplary record in educational leadership and her profound commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment make her uniquely qualified to lead our district," said Board President Carolyn M. Wilson. “We are confident that under her guidance, Alvord will continue to thrive and set new benchmarks in educational excellence."

Dr. Byrne expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, "I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of Alvord Schools. It is a privilege to continue working with our Board of Education and our dedicated staff and community to build on our achievements and enhance our programs.”

The district invites all community members to a welcoming reception for Dr. Byrne, which will be held at the district office at 9 KPC, Corona, CA, 92879 on May 16, from 4 to 5 pm. This event will provide an opportunity for Alvord community members to meet and greet their new superintendent and learn about her vision for the future of the district.
